Siblings

Most sibling fighting is competition for the same scarce resource: parental attention. KidsHealth (Nemours) advises against comparing siblings, recommends cooling-off periods before problem-solving, and stresses that children need to see conflict resolved, not just stopped.

Stop comparing, start noticing

Comparisons fuel rivalry; specific praise for each child's own strengths starves it. Give each child regular one-to-one time, even ten minutes, so attention stops being the prize they fight over.

Separate, calm, repair

Intervene for safety, separate to cool down, then bring them back for a short redo: what each one felt, one thing to try next time. If the same fight repeats daily, change the setup - hunger, tiredness, one toy - rather than ruling on who started it.

Know when to step in

Step in for safety: hurting, breaking, bullying. Otherwise narrate instead of judging - two kids, one truck, both angry. Stay neutral on the facts while validating both feelings, then coach the redo.
